David sent me the following link today: http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/web/0,1518,442989,00.html. Der Spiegel Online reports about Larry Sanger's plan to compete his own creation Wikipedia by starting up a similar project called citizendium. David wonders if we are reaching the limits of web 2.0, open campaigning and peer-to-peer approaches. The article contains clear signs in favour of his assumption. Like "The community does not follow its own rules". Larry believes that there needs to be a controlling group enforcing the rules. So we are coming back to hierarchical models with people who contribute and people who control. It will be very interesting to see which path Wikipedia and Citizendium are going to take. Personally I don't think we are coming to an end of web 2.0. I rather believe we are going to live in a world where old and new will be living next to each other and people choose from both models the one they consider most appropriate in a given situation.
